About the Author

Steve CarperScience fiction and writing became inextricably intertwined in Steve Carper’s life in 1969 when he attended the St. Louis Worldcon and then saw his article on the con published by the Rochester Times-Union newspaper. His first published work of fiction was written at the 1972 Clarion West writers workshop. A long-time member of the Science Fiction and Fantasy Writers of America (SFWA), he is their liaison to other writers organizations. That love of genre and concern for the changing realities of the publishing world has been expressed in ten years’ worth of Writers’ Bloc columns for the SFWA Bulletin.

That lead to his current SFWA project, the labor of love, editing the next SFWA Handbook, the first SFWA publication to exclusively focus on the business of F&SF and the needs of working writers to better understand that business. A major offering that he hopes will be available to the general public, to anyone interested in becoming a professional or a better professional.

He lives in Rochester, NY, with more than 10,000 books, half of them relating to genre, half nonfiction on a multitude of subjects, and with a few long shelves of mainstream fiction. When you have 10,000 books in an ordinary city house, 110% is not an unreasonable total.
